This prize has been awarded since 2003 to young researchers under 40 years old. It was presented by Masao Horiba, the founder of the company, on October 17, the anniversary of the company's creation (1953), at a ceremony in Kyoto in the presence of the Mayor of Kyoto and the Dean of the University.

In January 2012, Yoann Roupioz will start an ANR contract in partnership with GenOptics, a start-up spun off from CEA in 2001, specializing in surface plasmon resonance imaging technologies, which became a HORIBA subsidiary in 2009.
