Nanostructured Silicon based materials enhance strongly the energy density, but electrode swelling in cycling induces fast capacity fading. Making Si-rich electrodes with high enough loading (high Silicon content, and high electrode density and thickness) remains a challenge.
We develop composite materials based on the growth of Silicon nanowires directly on graphite micron-sized flakes. The silicon nanocomponent gives a high lithium storage capacity to the composite, while the graphite microcomponent brings stability.
