Characterization of batteries by neutron & synchrotron techniques

A junior scientist position is open at the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Grenoble , a research institute which depends on both the CEA and of the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA). This position is offered as full-time permanent staff in the SyMMES laboratory to reinforce the battery research activities, particularly on advanced characterizations using Large Scale Facilities, in connection to strategic CEA academic & industrial programs, European large initiatives as Battery 2030+ and long-term collaborations with Grenoble’s European facilities ESRF and ILL.

Hosting teams
The position will be hosted in our laboratory, a joint CEA-CNRS-UGA laboratory developing basic research programs and gathering physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers and technicians working in different high societal impact areas, in particular energy conversion & storage. The laboratory is located in the “Polygone Scientifique”, near the city centre of Grenoble, which offers an exceptional working environment connected to top-level CEA characterization platforms and neighbouring institutes (CEA-LITEN, CNRS, ESRF, ILL) as well as a very good quality of life, in the heart of the French Alps.

Scientific Profile
- PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or equivalent.
- Expertise in the investigation of battery materials & devices, with focus on advanced characterization by means of neutron & synchrotron techniques (imaging, scattering, spectroscopy), including in operando mode. 
- Knowledge of the European landscape, R&D players and industrial challenges in Li-ion and post-Li ion batteries.
- The candidate should possess strong communication skills to work in a multidisciplinary environment and interact with the electrochemists, chemists and physicists of IRIG, as well as with our European academic and industrial partners. 
- Project management skills and international experience are a strong asset.
